Toyota Land Cruiser MPG: 2026 and 2027 Ratings
Every 2026 and 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser uses the i-FORCE MAX turbocharged hybrid powertrain with full-time 4-wheel drive. Here is how each grade is rated, the EPA records behind the numbers, a rough range per tank, and the government's advice on why mileage drops in a central Illinois winter. Figures are from toyota.com and fueleconomy.gov, read November 3, 2026.

What is the Toyota Land Cruiser MPG?
Toyota.com rates the 2026 and 2027 Land Cruiser, in both the Land Cruiser 1958 and Land Cruiser grades, at 22 mpg city, 25 highway and 23 combined. Fueleconomy.gov's records for both model years show the same figures.
Land Cruiser MPG by grade

The EPA records behind the numbers
| EPA listing | Engine and transmission | Drive | Fuel | City | Hwy | Comb. |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 Land Cruiser (record 49936) | 2.4L turbo 4-cyl. hybrid, 8-speed automatic | 4WD | Premium | 22 | 25 | 23 |
| 2027 Land Cruiser (record 50359) | 2.4L turbo 4-cyl. hybrid, 8-speed automatic | 4WD | Premium | 22 | 25 | 23 |
Miles per gallon. From fueleconomy.gov (U.S. EPA and Department of Energy) records for the Toyota Land Cruiser, read November 3, 2026. Both records list a hybrid with stop-start, 4-wheel drive and premium gasoline, and their figures match toyota.com's.
One powertrain: i-FORCE MAX
Toyota.com lists the same powertrain on both grades for 2026 and 2027: the i-FORCE MAX 2.4-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder hybrid, with 326 net combined horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 465 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,700 rpm, an 8-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) and a 288V sealed nickel-metal hydride battery with 1.87 kWh capacity.
Both grades have full-time 4-wheel drive with Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), a Torsen limited-slip center differential with locking feature and electronically controlled locking rear and center differentials, plus Drive Mode Select with Sport, Eco, Normal and Snow modes. The Land Cruiser grade also has Multi-Terrain Select with Auto, Dirt, Sand, Mud, Rock and Deep Snow modes.
Toyota.com rates every Land Cruiser to tow up to 6,000 lb. Towing, like off-road driving, will lower your real-world mileage.
How far can a Land Cruiser go on a tank?
Multiplied by the 23 mpg combined rating, toyota.com's 17.9-gallon tank gives a rough range of about 412 miles (17.9 gallons x 23 mpg).
That is our arithmetic from the published ratings, not a range figure from Toyota or the EPA. Towing, roof loads, speed, terrain and temperature all change real-world range.
Why your Land Cruiser's MPG drops in winter
Fueleconomy.gov says conventional gasoline vehicles can expect a 10% to 20% fuel economy loss in city driving and 15% to 33% on short trips in cold weather, and hybrids typically 20% to 40% in city driving and 25% to 45% on short trips. Its reasons:
Cold fluids
Cold engine oil and other drive-line fluids increase friction in the engine and transmission.
Longer warm-up
The engine takes longer to reach its most fuel-efficient temperature, which hurts short trips most.
Heat and defrost
Heated seats, window defrosters and heater fans use extra power.
Tires and air
Tire pressure drops in the cold, and denser cold air adds drag at highway speeds.
Winter gasoline
Winter blends can have slightly less energy per gallon than summer blends.
Battery
Battery performance falls in the cold, which on hybrids also affects regenerative braking.
From fueleconomy.gov's Fuel Economy in Cold Weather page, read November 3, 2026.
Getting closer to the rated numbers
Fueleconomy.gov's cold-weather advice: park in a warmer place such as a garage, combine trips so you drive less often with a cold engine, keep warm-up idling short (it notes most manufacturers recommend driving off gently after about 30 seconds), use seat warmers and defrosters only as needed, check tire pressure regularly, use the oil your manufacturer recommends for cold weather, and remove roof racks when you are not using them.
Year-round, it says aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) can lower gas mileage by roughly 15% to 30% at highway speeds and 10% to 40% in stop-and-go traffic, that mileage usually decreases rapidly above 50 mph, and that an extra 100 pounds in a vehicle could reduce mpg by about 1%.

Toyota Land Cruiser MPG FAQ
What MPG does the Toyota Land Cruiser get?
Toyota.com rates the 2026 and 2027 Land Cruiser at 22 mpg city, 25 highway and 23 combined. That is the same for both grades, the Land Cruiser 1958 and the Land Cruiser, because both use the i-FORCE MAX 2.4-liter turbocharged hybrid powertrain.
Is the Land Cruiser a hybrid?
Yes. Toyota.com lists the i-FORCE MAX 2.4-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain on every 2026 and 2027 Land Cruiser, with 326 net combined horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, an 8-speed automatic and a 288V nickel-metal hydride hybrid battery. Fueleconomy.gov lists both model years as hybrids.
Does the Land Cruiser need premium gas?
Fueleconomy.gov lists premium gasoline as the fuel for the 2026 and 2027 Land Cruiser. The owner's manual and fuel-door label of a specific vehicle give its fuel requirement.
How far can a Land Cruiser go on a tank?
Toyota.com lists a 17.9-gallon fuel tank. At the 23 mpg combined rating that is roughly 412 miles (17.9 x 23). This is simple math from the ratings, not a Toyota or EPA range figure.
Is the 2027 Land Cruiser more fuel efficient than the 2026?
No. On November 3, 2026, toyota.com listed the same 22 / 25 / 23 mpg rating, 17.9-gallon tank and 326 hp hybrid powertrain for both model years, and fueleconomy.gov's 2026 and 2027 records show the same city, highway and combined figures.
Does the Land Cruiser have four-wheel drive?
Yes. Toyota.com lists a full-time 4-wheel-drive system with Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) and a Torsen limited-slip center differential with locking feature on both grades, and fueleconomy.gov lists both model years as 4-wheel drive.
Why is my Land Cruiser's MPG lower in winter?
Fueleconomy.gov says hybrids typically lose 20% to 40% of their fuel economy in city driving in cold weather, and 25% to 45% on short trips, because of colder fluids, longer warm-ups, cabin heating, lower tire pressure, winter gasoline blends and reduced battery performance.
