2026 Sienna LE eighth seat: useful flexibility, with a place to put the seat

The 2026 Sienna LE seats eight in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive form. Its second-row center seat can be removed, but that flexibility comes with a packing decision: take the detached seat out of the vehicle or secure it in the luggage compartment. Plan for that seat before you fill the cargo area.

Both LE drivetrains include the eighth seat

Toyota lists eight-passenger seating and a fabric second-row bench with a stowable center seat for LE FWD (model code 5402) and LE AWD (5403). This guide covers those LE configurations. Removing their center seat is a change you make to an existing eight-passenger layout; it is not a way to add an eighth seat to a seven-passenger vehicle.

The removable center-seat cycle
  1. Start with the existing eight-passenger second row.
  2. Remove only the center seat using the manual’s procedure.
  3. Take it out of the vehicle OR secure it in the luggage compartment.
  4. Return it to its original anchors. Latch, unfold and lock; check the seatback, cushion, belt and head restraint before use.

Removing it creates a storage responsibility

Make the change while parked on level ground, with the parking brake set and the shift lever in P. Keep bodies clear and stow the belt and buckle before folding. For removal, lower the center head restraint fully, pull the lock-release strap and fold the seatback. The strap at the front of the cushion releases the rear latch; the strap under the seat releases the seat for removal. Retract the cushion leg.

Then remove the detached seat from the vehicle or secure it in the luggage compartment. Toyota also refers to a luggage-room storage box: when taking the stowed seat out of that box, raise it above the outer trim. That stored seat is part of your packing plan, so decide whether it will travel with you before assigning all the luggage space to other items.

Do not sit on or place anything on a seat that has been removed from the vehicle. Toyota warns that loading or sitting on the removed center seat can damage its metal leg tips and prevent reinstallation. It is not an extra chair or a place to stack luggage.

Returning the seat means checking the attachment

Reinstall the center seat in its original position; the wrong position can damage the locks or bezels. Latch its attachment buckles onto the anchors—the cushion leg opens by itself—then unfold and lock the seatback. Confirm that the seat is locked by shaking the seatback and lifting the cushion. Also push the top of the seatback forward and rearward to check its lock.

Before the seat is used, check that its belt is neither twisted nor caught in the seatback, and raise the center head restraint one level above its stowed position. Use the correct, locked head restraint; do not drive with a head restraint removed. No one may ride on a folded seatback or in the luggage compartment, and children must not enter that compartment.

For occasional eight-person trips, plan the change in both directions: where the detached seat will be secured, and when it will be attached and checked again. That is the practical difference between choosing an eight-seat version for this purpose and choosing a seven-seat configuration.
